Man Who Injected Food Products with Unknown Substance Arrested
Shoppers have been advised to throw away food bought in three west London supermarkets after a man was arrested on suspicion of injecting food items with an unknown substance using syringes.
London police arrested a man today, Thursday, after reportedly injecting unknown substances into food containers using syringes at three London supermarkets to cause public harm, according to the Metropolitan Police.
According to the police statement, officers were called on Wednesday evening after the man, who had verbally abused people in the street, went into three supermarkets in Fulham, west London, and injected the containers with an unknown substance using needles.
"It is currently unknown as to how many items have been contaminated, or what with," the statement said, adding that "investigations are ongoing to establish if other businesses in the area are involved in the incident."
The three stores owned by Waitrose, Sainsbury´s, and Tesco chains were closed, and police recommended the disposal of any food items bought from these supermarkets around the time of the incident.
