Just before 4 pm, firefighters and police officers were called to the sprawling park in the 500 block of Western Avenue. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire in several locations throughout the park, most notably near a baseball field.
Police in Los Angeles estimated that 500 people were in the park. Some were at an unlicensed car show, according to local police.
There were no arrests reported. During the police investigation, no one was permitted to leave the park.
It is worth noting that a baseball field, swimming pool, indoor and outdoor basketball courts, hiking trails, and a child care center are among the park's amenities.
The park is the largest of four named after notable landowner and developer George H. Peck and his family in San Pedro.
In a similar incident, five people were treated for gunshot wounds and one was confirmed dead after a fight broke out and shots were fired in the Seattle suburb of Renton, Washington Last Saturday.
With shootings hitting the country hard and not sparing any state, the United States continues to suffer from violent crime and mass shootings due to its loose gun laws and supremacist grounds for such violence.
