Fifteen journalists were killed by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in Gaza during August 2025, including three female reporters, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) confirmed.

The report underscores the ongoing Israeli aggressions on Gaza and the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists.

According to the Syndicate’s Freedoms Committee, a total of 86 violations and crimes against journalists were recorded in the West Bank and Gaza Strip throughout the month.

Among those killed were Palestinian journalists Marwa Muslim, Mariam Abu Daqqa, and Islam Abed. The Syndicate noted that nine other journalists were injured, with cases leading to severe outcomes such as limb amputations and permanent paralysis.

The deadliest incidents occurred at hospitals under siege. On August 10, six journalists were killed near Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. Later in the month, on August 25, five more journalists were killed and four others injured during Israeli strikes at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis.

At least six journalists suffered serious injuries from shrapnel and live fire, leaving some permanently disabled. Additionally, three relatives of journalists were killed, and four family homes were destroyed during Israeli aggression.

PJS documents systematic violations

The report also documented the detention of journalists Farah Abu Ayash, Muath Amarneh, and Asid Amarneh.

Six incidents of direct assaults on press teams were recorded, alongside 33 cases in which journalists were barred from covering events in the West Bank, including in al-Mughayyir, Beit Dajan, Ramallah, and Nablus.

Israeli aggression on Gaza expands beyond killings

The PJS noted three attacks by Israeli settlers against journalists, as well as three instances of open incitement to kill Palestinian journalists by Israeli media figures and official social media accounts. These calls to violence, it added, directly contributed to killings in Gaza.

The syndicate stressed that Israeli aggression against the press not only violates international law but also aims to silence coverage of crimes committed in Palestine.
