Al-Qanoua Calls to End Prisoners' Suffering in Summer
"Hamas" Spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanoua highlights the increased suffering of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons in summer due to high temperatures and the absence of air conditioning equipment.
"Hamas" Spokesman Abdul Latif Al-Qanoua, stated that "the suffering of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons worsens in summer and intensifies due to severe heat waves."
Al-Qanoua related, in a press statement, that the so-called "Prison Authority" deliberately inflicts suffering on the detainees, depriving them of their rights and essential summer requirements, such as electric fans and other air conditioning equipment.
Al-Qanoua called on human rights organizations to exert pressure on the occupation forces to provide the much-needed summer equipment to alleviate the prisoners' suffering during high temperatures.
Yesterday, the number of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons practicing hunger strikes increased to 17, 16 of which are carried out against administrative detention. Youssef Al-Amer from the Jenin camp joined the hunger strike in the Al-Naqab Prison.
Detainees in the occupation prisons are subjected to the harshest types of torture. Despite their administrative incarceration, information indicates that the prisons lack the bare minimum of human rights, particularly due to the brutal methods the occupation forces resort to.
It is worth noting that weeks ago, Israeli occupation forces released prisoner Ghadanfar Abu Atwan, after a 65 day-long hunger strike, due to the deterioration of his health. The same scenario applies to freed prisoners Maher Al-Akhras and Khodr Adnan.
It is notable that 40 prisoners have begun hunger strikes since the beginning of this year, with Maher Al-Akhras and Ghadanfar Abu Atwan bearing the longest strikes. Mohammed Al-Zaghir is the latest one to initiate the strike. The majority of the hunger strikes are against the administrative detention policy, with the total number of administrative prisoners was around 540 by the end of June.
