In an exclusive interview with Al Mayadeen,  Ahmet Hamdi Çamlı an MP of the Turkish Justice and Development Party described the anticipated elections as the most important in the history of the republic: noting that the outcome will be fateful for Turkey. Çamlı also accused the incumbent US president, Joe Biden of providing support for Erdogan's opponents.

Furthermore, based on his fieldwork, Çamlı claimed that votes in favor of the AKP party have been assessed to be increasing despite smear campaigns leveled against them by the Republican People's Party: saying that Kemal Kilicdaroglu should be ashamed of such tactics.

"Turkey is now living in the most democratic phase in the history of the republic, these elections can be described as alliance elections, and the citizen must take a national stand," Çamlı said.

In regards to Syria, Çamlı said that restoring Afrin has nothing to do with democracy rather it's an issue of terrorism. Çamlı added that there are some who serve foreign and Israeli interests and have been aiming to undermine Syria's sovereignty by creating a state within Syria.

He added that Syria's security is a priority for Turkey such that it is necessary for the return of displaced refugees. On that note, Çamlı remarked that the Syrians who were nationalized in Turkey do not exceed 200 thousand all across Turkey.

Back in April, Turkish Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu criticized the US' attempts at creating a "terrorist state" on Turkey's borders, referring to an independent Kurdish state, and said that Ankara is taking the necessary measures to prevent this enterprise.

The minister noted that Turkey has been fighting terrorism for 4 decades, but the risk of a "terrorist state" persists as the US continues to intervene in the region. Turkey has been engaged in a deadly conflict with the Kurdistan Worker's Party (PKK) since 1984 and has recurrently condemned the US for arming Kurdish militias in northern Syria.
