Grenade Targets Taliban Police Vehicle in Kabul
A Taliban police vehicle was targeted by a grenade in the Afghan capital; none have claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
A grenade was thrown at a Taliban police vehicle in the Afghan capital, Kabul, on Wednesday morning, wounding two militants and four schoolchildren, government officials said.
"This morning a grenade was thrown at a mujahideen vehicle in Deh Mazang, wounding two mujahideen," Taliban interior ministry spokesperson Qari Sayed Khosti told AFP.
An eyewitness said that the explosion happened just before 8 am (03:30 GMT) during rush hour in the Deh Mazang district in the west of the capital.
"I was on my way to work, it was 7:55 am and I heard this very big explosion on the road. I managed to escape," the witness explained.
Images shared on social media showed plumes of smoke and dust rising into the air on the streets of the capital.
No side has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
The Taliban, which made restoring security to the country a priority after 20 years of war, is facing a wave of attacks launched by ISIS since it came to power on August 15.
In the past weeks, "ISIS-K" has targeted the Taliban and civilians in mosque bombings in Afghan cities.
Last Thursday, a local Taliban police official was killed in a bomb attack in his car in Asadabad, eastern Afghanistan.
