Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stormed the vicinity of the Al Aqsa Mosque compound on Thursday, accompanied by Argentine President Javier Milei, according to Israeli media reports.

The visit included a stop at the al-Buraq Wall, also known as the Western Wall, where both leaders reportedly performed Talmudic rituals.

This marks a blatant desecration of Islam's third-holiest site, and a provocation for Muslims worldwide. This is Milei’s second visit to the occupied Palestinian territories since taking office in 2023.

During his first visit, the Argentine president confirmed that Argentina will relocate its embassy in "Israel" to occupied al-Quds in 2026.

The announcement was made during an address at the Knesset, where Milei stated, “I am proud to announce before you that in 2026 we will make effective the move of our embassy to the city of west Jerusalem, as we promised.”

Currently, Argentina's embassy is situated in Herzliya near Tel Aviv, alongside most foreign missions that continue to observe international consensus by not recognizing al-Quds as "Israel’s" capital.

Milei speaks at Knesset, echoes Trump’s controversial move

Milei’s position echoes US President Donald Trump’s 2017 decision to unilaterally recognize occupied al-Quds as the capital of "Israel", a move that led to the relocation of the US embassy in May 2018 and sparked widespread international condemnation.

Milei’s initial visit to the occupied territories in February 2024 was also his first state visit outside Argentina. During that trip, he announced plans to transfer the embassy and reaffirmed his political and ideological support for "Israel".

The international community overwhelmingly views al-Quds as occupied territory. "Israel" has occupied the eastern part of the city since 1967 and later annexed it in a move not recognized by the United Nations.

Despite this, a small number of countries, among them the United States, Paraguay, Guatemala, Honduras, and Kosovo, have moved their embassies to the occupied city, undermining international law and UN resolutions.

Ahead of Milei's address, Netanyahu proclaimed that al-Quds “will never be divided again.”
