Netanyahu & family stripped from chauffeurs, personal security
With a recommendation from the Israeli Shin Bet, the Ministerial Committee has decreased Netanyahu's 'security time' from 1 year to 6 months.
The Israeli ministerial committee has decided to cut Israeli ex-Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his family's personal security, which was supposed to be in effect for a year after leaving office, to 6 months.
The decision will come into effect on Monday, where Netanyahu will have Shin Bet protection for the next 20 years while his wife and kids won't have bodyguards anymore. The ex-PM cried that his family faces death threats.
A chauffeured vehicle, along with security, is granted as per protocol after Israeli officials leave office. However, in January, Netanyahu requested to extend that period for a year - a decision that has been reverted on Sunday.
Responding to Netanyahu's claims that there are threats against his family, the Public Security Minister, Omer Barlev, retorted that there are no threats against his family.
“When the Shin Bet, "Israel" Police, and the Mossad say that there is no threat to the Netanyahu family, the decision is easy,” Public Security Minister Omer Barlev tweeted following the adoption of the Shin Bet's recommendation, which was sent to and approved by the ministerial committee. “I am counting on the Shin Bet and police to uncover and deal with such a threat, if there is one.”
Netanyahu threw a tantrum, deeming the decision 'politically motivated,' calling it "outrageous and irresponsible." He criticized the decision in a Facebook video, in addition to a letter sent to the Prime Minister's Office saying he's not delusional.
The former PM has also been recently criticized for not returning the trappings of the office even after he was voted out. Netanyahu did not budge out of the Prime Minister's residence until the Israeli High Court threatened him.
