Palestinian Captive Movement Announces Failure of Dialogue with Israeli Prison Service
Al Mayadeen's sources confirm that the Captive Movement has decided to escalate its activities.
Al Mayadeen's sources have reported that the first round of negotiations between the Prison Service and representatives from the leadership committee of Islamic Jihad prisoners in occupation prisons has failed.
This was due to the Prison Service's obstinate refusal of some demands.
In a statement published by the Prisoners' Media Office, the National Captive Movement had decided to raise the preparedness of prisoners in case of any new developments, after the failure of dialogue with the Prison Service in the Ramon and Hadarim prisons.
Our sources have also confirmed that "a new batch of Islamic Jihad movement prisoners have now joined the hunger strike," adding that "the names of these prisoners will be released in a few hours."
Furthermore, captive leader Mona Qa'adan is joining the hunger strike, along with other female prisoners of the Islamic Jihad movement, noting that the Captive Movement has decided to escalate.
The movement also affirmed that all 60 Islamic Jihad prisoners are demanding the Prison Service to allow them to join other hunger-striking prisoners, stressing that they will not be left alone against their jailor.
Earlier today, the Muhjat Al-Quds Foundation reported the deterioration of the health condition of the two prisoners on hunger strike, Mohammad Amoudi, and Hosni Issa, due to the Israeli prison authority’s neglect.
The two prisoners began an open hunger strike last Wednesday to protest the repressive measures and penalties imposed by the occupation prisons administration, against Islamic Jihad prisoners following the Freedom Tunnel operation at the Gilboa Prison.
Hamas and the Islamic Jihad's support for the movement
The Leader of the Islamic Jihad Movement, Mohammad Shallah, confirmed yesterday that his movement is closely following the prisoners' strike in the occupation prisons.
Shallah explained that the occupation cannot undermine the determination of the prisoners, noting that the strike will grow to include members of other movements in the coming days.
Additionally, the Supreme Leadership body of Hamas Prisoners indicated yesterday in a statement, that all prisoners stand united in the face of the Prison Authority's punitive measures, especially those imposed against Islamic Jihad movement prisoners.
It also emphasized that it will not ignore the occupation Prison Authority's constant delay and reluctance in implementing the agreed terms regarding the return of prison conditions to what they were before September 6, the date of the Freedom Tunnel operation.
The Israeli Prison Service tightened its restrictions on prisoners after the breakout of 6 prisoners from the Gilboa maximum security facility in September before they were recaptured days later. The restrictions were especially enforced on Islamic Jihad prisoners, as 5 of the returned prisoners were members of the movement.
