A 49-year-old Palestinian detainee, shot by Israeli forces during his arrest in September 2023, was martyred after succumbing to his wounds in custody, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society announced on Sunday.

The Israeli occupation authorities informed the Palestinian Authority's General Authority of Civil Affairs that Nasser Khalil Radaydeh, from al-Ubeidiya near Beit Lahm in the southern occupied West Bank, died on April 20, 2025, at Hadassah Hospital in al-Quds.

Radaydeh, a father of seven, became the second Palestinian detainee to be martyred within three days, the PPS highlighted.

On April 17, observed as Palestinian Prisoners' Day, a 20-year-old detainee was also martyred, marking what appears to be one of the deadliest periods for Palestinian prisoners and detainees under the Israeli occupation.

Radaydeh, who had been detained since September 18, 2023, was transferred from "Israel’s" Ofer Prison to Hadassah Hospital in al-Quds just one day before his martyrdom, after initially being hospitalized at Shaare Tzedek hospital in al-Quds following his detention and severe injury, where visitation reports at the time indicated his condition had stabilized.

The Palestinian Prisoners' Society noted that Radaydeh's martyrdom brings the total number of documented Palestinian detainees killed since 1967 to 302, while dozens more, particularly from Gaza, have been martyred since the onset of the current war on the Palestinian enclave, though their bodies remain withheld by the Israeli occupation authorities.

'Israel' starves minor detainee to death

An autopsy revealed that 17-year-old Palestinian minor Walid Khaled Abdullah Ahmad was starved to death while in Israeli custody, according to an April 3 report by Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP).

Ahmad, from Silwad town, was martyred under dire circumstances in late March at "Israel's" Megiddo Prison, with DCIP stating his death likely resulted from "starvation, dehydration from colitis-induced diarrhea, and infectious complications all compounded by prolonged malnutrition and denial of life-saving medical intervention."

The autopsy performed at the Abu Kabir Forensic Institute in Tel Aviv revealed disturbing evidence of abuse, including significant air accumulation in the chest and abdominal cavities, which DCIP stated was "likely caused by blunt trauma."

The autopsy findings additionally showed inflammation, edema, and congestion in the large intestine consistent with traumatic injuries potentially resulting from beatings by Israeli prison guards, while further examination confirmed Ahmad had endured extreme and likely prolonged malnutrition, along with a neck laceration, all compounding the evidence of systematic severe mistreatment during his detention.
