Putin: Russia Will Not Hurry to Recognize the Taliban
The Russian President said that ISIS seeks to infiltrate the Commonwealth's territory under the guise of refugees.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday said there is no hurry to recognize the Taliban as the legitimate authoritiy in Afghanistan, during a video conference meeting with CIS leaders' summit.
“Hundreds of fighters loyal to the ISIS group were massing in northern Afghanistan with plans to move between CIS countries disguised as refugees”, he added.
Putin emphasized that "the problem of drug production remains acute in Afghanistan, and it will be difficult for the country's new authorities to abandon the source of income from such activities, especially in the event of an economic crisis."
Earlier, the Russian President said that the United States' involvement in Afghanistan has led to tragedy.
