In a statement, the Democratic Socialists of America’s International Committee (DSA IC) affirmed Iran’s inherent right to self-defense on Tuesday. This stance comes in light of the recent Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus on April 1. The party reiterated its steadfast opposition to offering any military or diplomatic support to the Israeli aggression campaign, as "Israel" is carrying out an all-scale genocide against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

The DSA IC firmly opposed any involvement by the US in supporting Israeli strikes against Iran and denounced its punitive measures such as sanctions and travel bans enacted by the Biden administration or Congress in response to Iran's retaliatory attack on "Israel".

The statement shed light on the extensive history of imperialism by the US, citing the CIA-orchestrated overthrow of Prime Minister Mohammad Mossadegh in 1953. It emphasized that the US and "Israel" have inflicted harm on the Iranian people through various means, including causing casualties in the Iran-Iraq war, conducting regular assassinations of leaders, scientists, and top commanders during diplomatic missions, and imposing sanctions that deprive Iranians of vital medical supplies.

The DSA IC statement stressed that the Biden administration will not participate in Israeli strikes against Iran, but its steadfast commitment to "Israel" leaves an opportunity for escalation, shedding light on the recent Israeli attempt to cross the Lebanese border, intense bombardment in southern Lebanon and ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people, which the party suggests "is dragging the US into a larger death spiral."

The party statement emphasized that the Biden administration's unwavering support for the Zionist project has granted "Israel" unchecked freedom of action, leading to severe breaches of international humanitarian law and military provocations against regional allies of Palestine. Moreover, the Biden administration not only demonstrated unwavering support but also refrained from de-escalating the current crisis by failing to denounce the Israeli strikes on the Iranian consulate. Instead, it obstructed the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) from taking action, according to the statement.

The DSA IC reiterated demands for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, an end to all military aid to "Israel" and an end to sanctions against the people of Iran, adding that "The power to stop this genocide and end this rapidly escalating regional crisis remains in Biden’s hands. The Biden administration bears full responsibility for every death that follows. No war with Iran! Free Palestine!"

Iran's retaliatory attack on "Israel"

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Aerospace Force announced on April 13 that it targeted Israeli positions in occupied Palestine with dozens of drones and missiles, as part of the retaliatory response to the malicious Israeli crime against the Iranian embassy in Syria.

Described as "unprecedented", by a Sky News correspondent, the IRGC's Aerospace Force announced that the operation dubbed "True Promise" was launched in the context of "punishing the criminal Zionist regime."

At least three batches of drones and cruise missiles were launched toward Israeli-occupied territories, with another three batches of ballistic missiles launched toward targets, Al Mayadeen's correspondent reported.

IRNA said that an Israeli Air Base in al-Naqab was successfully targeted by the IRGC. The news agency added that the attacking jets launched to attack the embassy took off from the targeted Air Base. Moreover, Iranian officials said that the Israeli attack on the Iranian embassy was conducted via US-made F-35 fighter jets. Further investigation reveals that the F-35 fighter jets are stationed at the "Nevatim" Airbase in al-Naqab, due to operational reasons.
