Washington Calls on Pyongyang for Unconditional Dialogue
US special envoy for North Korea Sung Kim says his country will continue its diplomatic path with North Korea in order to take concrete steps to improve the security of the US and its allies.
On Monday, US Special Envoy for North Korea Sung Kim issued a new call for an "unconditional dialogue" with North Korea, claiming that his country does not hold any hostile intentions towards Pyongyang.
The Special Envoy told reporters that the US will continue its diplomatic path with North Korea in order to take concrete steps to improve the security of the US and its allies.
Sung Kim's statement came after meeting in Washington with his South Korean counterpart on the eve of a tripartite meeting between the two, along with a high-ranking Japanese diplomat.
The US diplomat stressed that allies must bear responsibility to implement UN Security Council resolutions, in reference to UN sanctions imposed on North Korea, which its leader Kim Jong-un is trying to lift.
Today, South Korea and Japan announced that North Korea launched a ballistic missile off its east coast.
Earlier, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un considered the US the "root cause" of the tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
Kim affirmed that Pyongyang's weapons were only for self-defense against the US hostile policies.
