White House warns Iran of "failed diplomacy"
The White House revealed that President Joe Biden asked for "other options" if talks over concerning Iran’s nuclear program fail.
Reuters quoted White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki as saying: “In light of the continued progress in Iran’s nuclear program, the president has asked his team to prepare to turn to other options if diplomacy fails.”
“If diplomacy cannot get on track quickly and if Iran’s nuclear program continues to accelerate, then we will have no other choice but to take other measures and impose further restrictions on sectors that generate revenue for Iran,” she added.
Austin: deeply concerned by Iran's "lack of diplomacy"
Moreover, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stressed that the United States is putting efforts to strengthen security cooperation with "Israel", especially in the field of air security.
He expressed deep concern by Iran’s "lack of constructive diplomatic engagement", and warned that President Joe Biden was “ready to move on to other options” if the current Iran policy failed.
Austin’s statements were proposed during a Washington meeting with his Israeli counterpart, Benny Gantz, where the discussion shed light on the Iranian nuclear file.
The Israeli Security Minister said that “Iran poses the greatest threat to peace in the world and stability in the region,” adding that it “constitutes a vital threat to "Israel", and its nuclear program is a means of spreading its extremist ideology.”
Gantz stressed his government's “confidence in the United States’ determination to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons,” noting that “the relationship between the United States and 'Israel' is based on trust and common interests.”
On the other hand, Austin added that “Washington will work towards a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”
