Germany is an 'active participant' in the Gaza genocide

History will once again judge Germans harshly for the active participation of their elected leaders and the military-industrial complex they answer to in what can only be described as "Israel's" "Final Solution" to the Palestinian question.

Refreshingly forthright was the statement issued by German political party Mera25 on the efforts of "Israel's" Western backers, among them Germany, to derail the International Criminal Court’s case against the Zionist regime’s top leaders:

"The federal government is delaying ICC arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant. We condemn Germany’s interference in the proceedings of the ICC which are actively blocking an end to the genocide in Gaza. By protecting war criminals and being "Israel's" second largest weapons supplier, Germany is not only an accessory, but an active participant in this genocide."

Nearly 80 years after Germany and its collaborators orchestrated the industrial-scale extermination of two-thirds of Europe’s Jewish population, the nation that never tires of reminding the world how much it has learned from its dark history once again finds itself at the center of culpability amidst the ongoing mass slaughter of innocent people in Palestine.

Ten months into "Israel's" genocide in Gaza, which sets new quantitative and qualitative records for evil almost on a daily basis, Berlin remains dedicated to its role of active participation in the annihilation of Palestinians from their land.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz has vowed to keep feeding "Israel" with killing machinery Made in Germany, "We have not decided not to supply weapons," he told members of the press in Berlin, just days after the International Court for Justice (ICJ) delivered its landmark advisory opinion, declaring ""Israel's"" policies and practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territories unlawful.

But Germany couldn’t care less about what Amnesty International has described as "a historic vindication of the rights of Palestinians who have endured decades of cruelty and systematic human rights violations stemming from "Israel's" unlawful occupation."

War is ultimately a racket, as retired US major general Smedley D. Butler wrote in 1935, and as "Israel's" second largest arms supplier, Berlin makes a killing off of "Israel's" deadly military occupation and genocidal war on Gaza, approving 185 individual export permits in the 26 days following October 7 alone, when "Israel's" genocide was already in full swing, according to data compiled by Forensis.

It’s a genocide in many forms, not a ceasefire deal with violations

In addition, the insidious German vice of going above and beyond to gaslight Palestinians and those advocating for their cause is not a post-October 7 novelty. Germany’s utter contempt for international law when it comes to protecting Palestinians was already on full display when, beginning in 2021, three major human rights organisations, B’Tselem, Human Rights Watch, and Amnesty International, successively declared "Israel" an apartheid state.

Berlin categorically rejected the application of the apartheid label to "Israel's" system of oppression, invoking Western discourse’s pro-Zionist bothsidesism clause and unconvincingly arguing that criticising "Israel" was, in the words of a foreign ministry talking head, "not helpful."

Even amidst "Israel's" ongoing genocide, Germany has not deemed it necessary to change tack with regards to its abominable minority position of empathising with the fascist Netanyahu government’s unquenchable thirst for Palestinian blood. On the contrary: In January, it leapt to Tel Aviv’s defence at the ICJ, in true lapdog fashion, in the genocide case brought before the court by South Africa, astonishingly citing the lessons of the Shoah as the reason for intervening on behalf of those who are executing what future history books will refer to as the Palestinian Holocaust.

Obstruction of justice at international courts and direct military assistance to the Israeli regime are not the only anti-Palestinian tricks up the genocidal German sleeve. Violent police crackdowns against peaceful, pro-Palestine protests, mafia-like harassment and intimidation of key figures in the movement, and the state’s relentless (and often unsuccessful) lawfare against free speech and other basic rights all play a vital part in prolonging "Israel's" German-backed, genocidal orgy.

Recent examples of this German-led, European front of "Israel's" war on Gaza include, to name but a few, police thugs punching women in the head at a Berlin protest, German authorities threatening the editor of The Electronic Intifada, Ali Abunimah, with prison for speaking at an online event hosted by the Palestine Congress in Exile, and a draconian draft law designed to silence critics of "Israel's" genocide that aims to deport non-German citizens who express support for "terrorism", which could include a simple social media like for Resistance-related posts.

As I write these lines, a concerned colleague in Portugal has messaged me that they just saw a video of someone being arrested in Germany for wearing a T-shirt with the Palestinian flag on it. Months of violent policing of Palestine solidarity in my country have numbed my capacity for outrage.

Ever the prodigious contortionist when it comes to bending reality to fit its Zionism-misinformed world view, Germany has twisted and turned the narrative of an oppressed people’s justified resistance against violent erasure to such an unrecognizable extent that its once universalist "never again" promise has become a tool to cover up and fuel genocide, not condemn and stop it.

History will once again judge Germans harshly for the active participation of their elected leaders and the military-industrial complex they answer to in what can only be described as "Israel's" "Final Solution" to the Palestinian question.
