The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has strategic resources which revitalize the national economy and raise it to the world-class level in the face of the blockade by hostile forces.

The first one is the foundations of the self-sufficient economy that have been consolidated for several decades.

This constitutes the basis for the existence of socialism in the country and the motive force of its advance and development.

In retrospect, the hostile forces have made every conceivable attempt to isolate and stifle the DPRK, the fortress of independence. For over seven decades, they have imposed unprecedented severe political and economic blockade upon it.

However, under the leadership of President Kim Il Sung and Leader Kim Jong Il, the Korean people did not veer even a single step from the principle of self-reliance in the face of challenges and pressure but built an economy that stands on its own feet and develops relying on its own efforts, technology, and resources.

To cope with the grim situation in which the hostile forces are intensifying their moves to isolate and crush the country, Kim Jong Un, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission, pays close attention to ensuring the domestic production of raw and other materials and equipment in all sectors of the national economy.

The second one is the country’s powerful sci-tech force the state has trained with great efforts.

The country has a large contingent of competent scientists and talented people, and science and technology constitute the major motive force for the development of a self-sufficient economy.

Thanks to the line of attaching importance to science and technology and the policy of making all the people well-versed in science and technology steadily maintained by Chairman Kim Jong Un, the country has recently made radical development in science and technology and rapid consolidation of sci-tech forces. Many valuable successes of the latest science and technology have been achieved, thus strongly promoting the economic development.

The successes of the latest science and technology achieved in developing and launching artificial earth satellites and in the sector of biology and nanotechnology are attracting the attention of many world experts.

The third one is the creative strength of the people who have made self-reliance part of their mental qualities and are brimming with patriotic enthusiasm.

Kim Il Sung and Non-aligned Movement

The 70-year-long dangerous military threat by the hostile forces against the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, and their blockade and sanctions against the country, which have banned the import of even daily necessities, have been an unprecedented pressure and offensive.

The Korean people did not learn to hesitate or waver but to live on their own, deal with enemies and difficulties, and defend their dignity and rights in this protracted and harsh environment unprecedented in history. The schemes of the hostile forces only led them to make firmer their resolution to build theirs into a prosperous country, defend their dignity, and defeat their enemies at any cost by dint of their own strength. They have not only survived but also made leaps forward and achieved prosperity in the drawn-out arduous period. This couldn’t be called but a miracle.

It is eloquently proved by the inauguration ceremony of the then Samjiyon County town in the northern part, held in early December 2019.

This area, wiping away its appearance of the past, was renovated splendidly as befitting a local city in all aspects; the overall formation of the city is marvelous and every building and road go well with the feature of the northern highland and the whole city looks like an urban area in a park.

The area is over a thousand and several hundred meters above sea level with severe cold and heavy snow, but overcoming these unfavorable conditions, the Korean people newly built or rebuilt many low-rise and multistoried apartment houses of over 4 000 flats and more than 380 public and commercial buildings on hundreds of hectares of land, thus transforming this area into a model of a cultured mountainous city.

On the barren land in the northeastern part of this country, they built large-scale, modern vegetable greenhouses of 200 hectares and a tree nursery capable of producing 20 million saplings every year and hundreds of houses for the employees of the greenhouse farm and tree nursery, as well as public buildings, school, kindergarten, nursery, hospital, and various types of welfare service facilities.

And in the middle part of the country, they built a hot spring resort which can be regarded as a model hot spring resort in the country. Covering an area of over 1660 000 m2, each resort, consisting of indoor and outdoor spa baths, ski center, riding park, sanatorium, sports and recreational centers, welfare service facilities, and houses, is a comprehensive medical treatment and multifunctional sports and recreational base, all the components with practical, combinational, and artistic qualities of its component parts being ensured on a high level.

The Wonsan Kalma coast resort, Sunchon Phosphatic Fertilizer Factory, Orangchon Power Station, Tanchon Power Station, and other structures are under construction, and all the sectors of the national economy, including metal, coal-mining, building materials, and light industries are showing a trend of remarkable growth.

Competition among provinces for achieving successes in the fields of agriculture, stockbreeding, and local industry is also noteworthy.

The reality of the DPRK, which is becoming stronger, working world-startling miracles and improving people’s living standards day by day in the face of extreme military threat and sanctions, showcases the thoroughgoing spirit of independence of the Korean people.

As they have cherished the Juche idea, which advocates that man is the master of his own destiny and he also has the strength with which he shapes his own destiny, as part of the moral qualities, they are increasing the wealth of the country by dint of self-reliance in the circumstance under which others would not exist for even one day.

What is noteworthy is that they made it clear that they would not wait for the lifting of the sanction. They made it a fait accompli that they have to live under the sanctions imposed by the hostile forces, and are overcoming all difficulties by forming a solid integrated whole under the unfurled banner of achieving prosperity by dint of self-reliance; this indomitable will is striking the world with wonder.
