Major injuries in Gaza from "Israel's war": Urgent rehabilitation needs
A World Health Organization (WHO) analysis revealed that at least 22,500 injured Palestinians during "Israel's" war on Gaza as of July 23, 2024, are estimated to have life-changing injuries requiring urgent rehabilitation. Severe limb injuries, the most prevalent, account for up to 17,550 cases, with amputations, spinal cord injuries, burns, and traumatic brain injuries following behind. The report disclosed that the ongoing Israeli monstrous war on Gaza has severely disrupted Gaza’s healthcare system, with only 17 out of 36 hospitals still partially functional, and essential rehabilitation services like prosthetic care and physiotherapy are now unavailable. WHO concluded its report by urging the necessity "to ensure access to all essential health services, including rehabilitation to prevent illness and death," reiterating the call for a ceasefire in Gaza, as it is critical to rebuild its health system and meet the escalating rehabilitation needs.
