A report published on Tuesday revealed that the music industry in the UK has been severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the research conducted by trade body UK Music, one in three jobs in the British music industry were lost during the pandemic.
Data showed that the industry has lost 69,000 jobs in 2020 as a result of lockdowns and other measures taken to combat the virus.
Musicians and several other groups working in the music industry were mostly affected by the situation, as indicated in a report called "This is Music 2021."
Although many workers in the industry received support from the government, many were deemed ineligible to benefit from it, pointed out the report.
As a result, "thousands of music creators, crew and others leaving the industry for other sectors," while those who remained committed to their musical career had to find other sources of income.
The industry's contribution to the UK economy also dropped from £5.8bn in 2019 to £3.1bn in 2020, as the value of UK music exports decreased from £2.9bn to £2.3bn, the report confirmed.
