Claims for protests damages total €650 million: France Assureurs
France Assureurs says the number of claims has doubled since July 3.
France's insurers federation highlighted on Tuesday that as of July 7, over 11,300 claims for damages as a result of demonstrations in the country had been lodged, totaling €650 million ($716 million), Bloomberg reported.
In a statement, France Assureurs pointed out that the number of claims has doubled since July 3, adding that commercial property claims account for 55% of total value, while government property claims account for 35%.
According to the federation, the nature of the claims is substantially different from that of the 2005 protests, when car damage and fire accounted for 82% of claims, costing €204 million in total.
Elsewhere, the federation has requested that its members increase the claims notice time to 30 days, which is typically set at five days in insurance contracts.
The killing of 17-year-old Nahel Marzouk at the hands of French police in Hauts-de-Seine on June 27 left France in unrest as overnight protests roamed the country, leading to violent clashes between security forces and protesters, wreaking havoc across the country.
