French actor Alain Delon decides to end his life
After stating in 2018 that he was ready to "leave the world without regret", Alain Delon says today he had agreed on the process with his lawyers.
Alain Delon has said he has chosen euthanasia - assisted suicide or the practice of deliberately finishing one's life usually to relieve suffering - as a way to die, according to his son Anthony who revealed such info to RTL, and who his father chose to accompany him until the last minute.
However, as Delon's son refused to "execute" him, Anouchka, his daughter, agreed. Delon decided to reveal the reasons behind his decision in his upcoming autobiography "Between dog and wolf".
The father is not the only one in the family who chose this path: His wife Nathalie died by euthanasia. Their son recalls the sad experience by saying, "It's true that it would have been difficult for us to hold her hand and see life leave her like that. So, I'm not saying the last night was easy, but the last hours were, because she left in peace."
In 2018, Alain Delon also voiced his desire and readiness to "leave this world", hinting at reasons such as hating some people and expressing thoughts about everything being "false and only money counts. I will leave this world without regret", he told Paris Match back then.
Before being hospitalized in 2019, the actor expressed his hatred at aging, concluding that "We can't do anything about it, it is what we call age. You lose your face, your sight. You get up and, d*** it, your ankle hurts. You bump into yourself".
According to him, euthanasia is "the most logical and natural thing", and a person should have "the right to get the hell out of it quietly, without going through hospitals, injections, or things".
The French actor revealed that to avoid any mess, he had agreed about the process with his lawyers long ago.
It is worth mentioning that euthanasia was legalized in Switzerland decades ago, and according to the BBC, about 1,300 people died in the country by adopting this method.
