Iran to Revive Gas Deal with Turkmenistan
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi announces that he will be reviving the natural gas contract between Iran and Turkmenistan after a 4-year-long hiatus.
In a meeting with Iranian businessmen and private sector activists in Turkmenistan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi asserted that one of the top priorities of his administration is enhancing the country's economic, trade, and commercial activities.
President Raisi said an increase in exports indicates that the situation is "well-studied" and appropriate solutions were adopted to overcome obstacles.
"There is a suitable economic and trade infrastructure to develop and enhance the level of bilateral and regional cooperation in our country," the president asserted.
In a nod to the development of regional cooperation to bilaterally boost the economy, Raisi said Turkmenistan was confident the government of the Islamic Republic of Iran was determined to solve the problems and remove the existing obstacles.
"The gas agreement between Iran and Turkmenistan will definitely be revived," he announced.
The IRNA reported Sunday that the agreement will see the two countries exchanging up to 2 billion cubic meters per year.
"Regional and neighboring countries, due to deep cultural and historical commonalities, prefer to cooperate and have relations with the Islamic Republic of Iran, and in this regard, barriers to the activities of traders and exporters should be removed," he explained.
"We will seriously pursue the implementation of the cooperation agreements," Raisi said, referring to the regional efforts to implement ECO cooperation agreements.
