A leak was discovered on one of the two strings of the Druzhba oil pipeline in Poland, which is the major route for oil shipments to Germany, according to PERN on Wednesday, the Polish operator of the Druzhba pipeline.

"Late on Tuesday, PERN automation systems detected a leak in the Druzhba pipeline on one of the two strings of the western section of the gas pipeline — about 70 kilometers [43.5 miles] from Plock," the operator said in a statement.

Poland believes Druzhba pipeline leak happened due to accident: official

Mateusz Berger, the Polish official in charge of energy infrastructure, stated on Wednesday that there is no reason to assume the Druzhba oil pipeline spill was caused by sabotage. “Here we can talk about accidental damage,” Berger told Reuters.

PERN, the Polish operator of the Druzhba pipeline, announced earlier today that a leak had been discovered on one of the two strings of the Druzhba oil pipeline in Poland. The incident's cause has yet to be determined. The pipeline is the primary means of delivering oil to Germany.

This comes after the Nord Stream gas pipelines were damaged by two explosions first, followed by a third and then a fourth, according to Danish officials during a NATO conference on September 28, with the first two caused by the force of around 1,100 pounds (500 kilograms) of TNT each, according to The Wall Street Journal, citing persons familiar with the case.

Russia's Nord Stream gas pipelines were struck in Danish waters near the island of Bornholm on September 26. The general agreement was that the explosions were the result of sabotage.

In light of Europe's energy crisis, the recent gas leaks have worsened the energy crisis by further decreasing the supply of gas in Europe.
