Libya: Haftar, National Accord forces engage in violent clashes
Local Libyan sources say clashes erupted between the two sides after Haftar forces confiscated police vehicles.
In Libya's southern city of Sabha, clashes erupted between forces affiliated with Khalifa Haftar and a military unit affiliated with the National Accord Government. The fighting was described as violent, with medium to heavy weapons used.
According to local news outlets, the 116th Battalion, headed by Masoud Al-Jadi and connected with the National Accord Government, attempted to raid the headquarters of the military intelligence and other sites under the control of Al-Karama Forces, affiliated with Khalifa Haftar, in the center of Sabha city.
Sources explained that the clashes erupted between the two parties "after Haftar forces confiscated police vehicles, which the National Accord Government sent to Sabha Security Directorate, but Al-Karama Forces seized them and transferred them to Brak Al-Shati Airbase."
The confrontations, which occurred using medium and heavy weapons, led to migration from the al-Karda area as the two sides continue randomly exchanging fire.
During the clashes, missiles were launched when a Government of National Accord-affiliated battalion attempted to raid the Haftar-controlled military intelligence headquarters.
There are continued reports of ongoing fighting within Sabha, the largest city in southern Libya, making the number of casualties unclear.
