Syria, Indonesia to boost trade
The Chargé d'Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Jakarta discusses with an Indonesian official ways to enhance investment and trade exchange between the two countries.
The Chargé d'Affairs of the Syrian Embassy in Jakarta, Minister Plenipotentiary Abdel Moneim Annan, discussed with an Indonesian official, via video call, ways to enhance investment and trade exchange between the two countries.
The Syrian Chargé d'Affairs revealed during his talks with the Director of the Bilateral Cooperation Department at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, Med Ayo Marthini, that "the meeting aims to discuss opportunities and ways to increase the rates of trade and investment exchange between the two countries and to consider framing them within an agreement and establishing a joint cooperation."
Annan pointed out that despite the number of opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, they are "still limited", noting that "Syria is heading toward new investment horizons and reconstruction, and there are many investment opportunities that Indonesian companies can benefit from."
Marthini submitted a proposal to form a business group to discuss opportunities, challenges, and possibilities of cooperation with state companies and the private sector in Syria.
The cooperation includes the Indonesian and Syrian chambers of commerce, which obliges them to sign in principle a memorandum of understanding between the two countries to increase and develop trade exchange.
Marthini confirmed that an initial draft of a model memorandum of understanding will be submitted, and meetings will be held between the Syrian Embassy and the Indonesia Chamber of Commerce to discuss opportunities for cooperation with the private sector.
