Omicron is evading vaccine immunity: Study
The CDC reports that Omicron can spread to anyone regardless of vaccination status.
According to a Danish study, the fast global spread of omicron is likely attributable to the virus' capacity to bypass immunity provided by vaccinations.
The research tested 12,000 families and discovered that vaccinated people are 2.7-3.7 times more infectious than unvaccinated people.
Vaccine efficacy against symptoms was lowered to roughly 40% for individuals who were completely vaccinated and to 80% for those who received booster injections.
Omicron, a SARS-CoV-2 variation, is 5.41 times more likely than the Delta variant to reinfect someone who has some level of immunity.
Researchers at the University of Hong Kong's LKS Faculty of Medicine discovered that omicron "infection in the lung is significantly lower than the original SARS-CoV-2, which may be an indicator of lower disease severity."
Researchers wrote that their findings "confirm that the rapid spread of the Omicron [variant of concern] primarily can be ascribed to the immune evasiveness rather than an inherent increase in the basic transmissibility."
According to various research, it has also been linked to milder illness, and the CDC Director has described the disease a mild in virtually all cases.
In the week ending December 25, Omicron was responsible for 58.6% of all new cases in the United States.
