3 people killed in northern China after firework explosion in building
The police report states that the explosions took place in two apartment buildings in the Hedong District around 08:10 p.m. local time (12:10 GMT).
Local police in China confirmed on Wednesday that three people were killed and others were injured as a result of explosions by fireworks in the northern city of Tianjin.
The police report states that the explosions took place in two apartment buildings in the Hedong District around 08:10 p.m. local time (12:10 GMT).
"As a result [of the explosions] three people died, several were injured (mostly mildly), and some apartments were damaged," the statement by police read.
Immediately, law enforcement, rescue, and fire services arrived at the site and residents were evacuated.
During the investigation, police arrested the 46-year-old suspect surnamed Ma who used the fireworks.
Fireworks are notorious for starting fires and causing injuries if not dealt with correctly.
Back in January, a firework display by US billionaire Anthony Malkin set off a blaze on New Year’s Eve at a luxurious hilltop property in Dalefield, New Zealand, which led the flames to ignite in three locations.
When firemen arrived, the blaze had already spread to an area of 5,000 square meters.
