Afghanistan: Bus plunges off cliff, killing at least 10 people
The incident happened in the Malkhan area of the Salang Pass, as per a local spokesperson.
At least ten people were killed and 40 others were injured when a passenger bus fell off a cliff in Afghanistan's Salang Pass, a Baghlan security department spokesperson said as quoted by the Tolo news broadcaster.
"At least 10 bus passengers were killed and around 40 were wounded in an accident on Saturday on the Kabul-Baghlan highway," the spokesperson said.
The Soviet Union completed the 2.67-kilometer Salang Tunnel, which runs beneath the pass, in 1964. The tunnel connects northern Afghanistan to the capital city of Kabul and the country's southern regions.
The country has one of the highest global death rates from traffic accidents, a tragic record attributed to unsafe roads and negligent driving.
