Chihuahua shorter than popsicle named world's shortest dog
The dog, Pearl, measures 3.59 inches in height.
Pearl, a 2-year-old Chihuahua, is officially the world's smallest dog, according to her veterinarian and Guinness World Records.
Pearl is 3.59 inches (9.14 cm) tall, making her shorter than a popsicle stick. Her head is responsible for her being 5 inches (12.7 cm) longer than a dollar note.
Pearl was born on September 1, 2020, in Orlando, and weighed less than an ounce (28 g).
Her ancestor Miracle Milly, the previous Guinness World Record holder for the shortest dog, comes from a pedigree of tiny and relatively placid Chihuahuas.
Pearl's owner, Vanesa Semler, says she is "blessed" to have her "and to have this unique opportunity to break our own record and share with the world this amazing news."
Pearl, a diva at heart, enjoys high-quality pet food, sparkly collars, sweaters, and listening to classical music.
Her height was measured with a "measuring wicket," as is common for dogs, from the bottom of the foot to the "withers," which is a ridge between the shoulder blades found in all dogs.
