Ex-officer who shot Breonna Taylor appointed as deputy
A demonstration is set for Monday in Carroll County in response to the controversial appointment.
The former Louisville police officer -- who shot dead Breonna Taylor in her apartment in 2020 -- has a new post in law enforcement in a county northeast of the city.
Taylor, a 26-year-old Black emergency room technician, was killed in her sleep in an altercation after police barged in and her boyfriend thought an intruder was breaking in. In 2020, her death, along with the murders of Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd by former Minnesota Police Officer Derek Chauvin, sparked nationwide protests.
At the time, the police reportedly used a contentious "no-knock" warrant to access the flat, authorizing them to break down the door without warning. Attorney General Merrick Garland said the four officers were charged with civil rights offenses, unlawful conspiracy, unconstitutional use of force, and obstruction.
In a related development, Myles Cosgrove, who was fired from the police department in January 2021 for breaking use-of-force policies and failing to use a body camera during the raid on Taylor's apartment, was verified to have been hired, as per WHAS-TV.
In response to his employment, a demonstration was scheduled for Monday in Carroll County.
After the front door was forced open and Taylor's boyfriend fired a shot at them, Cosgrove reportedly fired 16 rounds into the apartment. According to federal ballistics specialists, Cosgrove fired the shot that killed Taylor.
None of the cops suspected of shooting and killing Taylor while she was sleeping have been charged or held in any way responsible or accountable.
