Explosion destroys Birmingham house, leaves man in critical condition
An explosion erupts in Birmingham, leaving a man in critical condition, destroying a house, and damaging several others.
A man was left in critical condition late Sunday following an explosion in Birmingham that destroyed a house and damaged several others.
The explosion took place in the Kingstanding area, West Midlands, and the wounded man was in the house at the time of the blast, the local ambulance service reported.
Four other individuals were assessed by medical crews for minor injuries, and several properties and cars were significantly affected.

Reports have indicated that the explosion could be heard more than 3 km away, with all emergency services and utility companies arriving at the scene at 8:38 pm after the police were called to Dulwich Road.
"There are reports of casualties but the number and severity of their injuries is unknown at this time. Those evacuated will be told where to meet," the West Midland police said earlier.
"A man was helped from the property by people at the scene but had suffered very serious injuries. After assessment and treatment at the scene, he was taken on blue lights to the major trauma center at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. His condition on arrival at the hospital was described as life-threatening," a spokesperson for the West Midlands ambulance service said.

The cause of the explosion is yet to be established, with reportedly no clues as to what it might have been.
"At 8.38 pm fire crews responded to multiple reports of an explosion on Dulwich Lane, Kingstanding. The explosion, the cause of which is unknown at this time, has destroyed one property and caused damage to other properties and vehicles nearby," the West Midland fire service said.
“It is too early to speculate on the cause. Our thoughts are with everyone impacted," said a spokesperson from Cadent Gas, the operator of the largest gas distribution network in the United Kingdom.
