An explosion at Northrop Grumman’s remote rocket testing facility in northern Utah destroyed a building on Wednesday, according to local authorities.
The Box Elder County Sheriff's Office confirmed that no injuries or fatalities were reported following an initial assessment of the site.
Emergency responders were dispatched at 7:38 am after reports of a loud explosion and a dark plume of smoke rising over the rangelands.
It remains unclear which specific building was destroyed or what its function was.
Northrop Grumman, which has a significant footprint in Utah for the production and testing of solid rocket motors, has not yet issued a public statement.
Authorities have urged the public to stay clear of the area as the investigation continues.
