Grassroots Movement Calls on Discontinuing Imports of US Products into Arab Countries
The International Movement to Boycott US Products (BUP) has recently sent letters to merchants and importers based in Arab countries to put importing United States products to a halt.
Presenting itself as a cultural movement aimed at rejecting hostile US policies, the International Movement to Boycott US Products (BUP) has recently sent letters to merchants and importers based in Arab countries to put importing US products to a halt.
As part of the movement's activities for September, the group sent out letters, inviting shop owners and those involved in trade and import to "discontinue the import of as many [US] products as possible, and to promote and support local products instead, in addition to importing non-US alternatives of proportionate quality."
The letter described the merchants as “the holders of a major role in the creation of public taste when it comes to the culture of consumerism,” continuing that they “have an essential role in influencing the public regarding consumption and purchases; especially since you have a big role in promoting, marketing, and advertising these products. Therefore, a great responsibility falls upon you, and that is, realizing the danger of contributing to the strengthening of a product or commodity that causes direct harm to our people’s health, or through contributing to the killing of other peoples in the world.”
Notably, the letter also made it clear that the BUP has nothing against American citizens or even US production in general - however, the initiative to boycott US products is a means of peaceful protest and pressure on the United States government, which has been waging wars and aggressive policies against civilians around the world for most of its history.
The BUP was formed as a grassroots movement aiming to hold the US accountable for funding terrorism, enforcing hawkish sanctions, supporting "Israel," and waging endless wars and invasions - according to them, pressuring the US through its economy is a way of rejection of its hostile policies in West Asia and the world.
They have recently held campaigns against Apple's iPhone and McDonald's - you can read more about the International Movement to Boycott US Products here.
