Indian train crash caused by drivers watching a cricket game
A train crash that took place in Andhra Pradesh state last October, killing 14 people, was found to have been caused by the respective drivers watching a cricket game.
After a train missed a signal and crashed into another train, killing 14 people, India's railways minister revealed that former train drivers were preoccupied with watching a cricket game.
The deadly accident in Andhra Pradesh state that took place in October coincided with India, the game host, playing England during the one-day World Cup.
Press Trust of India news agency quoted Ashwini Vaishnaw as saying: "The recent case in Andhra Pradesh happened because both the loco-pilot and co-pilot were distracted by the cricket match."
"Now we are installing systems which can detect any such distraction and make sure that the pilots [train drivers] and the assistant pilots are fully focused on running the train," he added.
Hundreds of millions of cricket fans in India watched the live broadcast of the match, which India won.
