"It Takes Two" wins Game of the Year
It Takes Two, the co-op action-adventure game, won the big prize at Thursday's Game Awards, the industry's annual end-of-year celebration.
In Thursday's annual end-of-year Game Awards celebration, the co-op action-adventure game “It Takes Two” won the big prize.
Not only that but the game was also honored as 2021's best multiplayer and best family game, after being nominated in six categories.
The game, designed by John Fares, requires two players to help a couple, Cody and May, fix their broken marriage, through solving a series of creative two-player puzzles.
It's the first time a similar game wins the game of the year; such a style of gaming was so popular in the 1990s.
It Takes Two is available on PC, PlayStation and Xbox, beat Nintendo's Metroid Dread, Resident Evil Village, and other platforms.
Its success is expected to encourage more studios to consider making similar couch cooperative games.
The ceremony was attended by Keanu Reeves, Jim Carrey, and Ming-Na Wen at LA's Microsoft Theater.
The show played a scene from The Matrix Resurrections and a trailer for The Matrix Awakens: An Unreal Engine 5 Experience - introduced by Reeves and co-star Carrie-Anne Moss.
