Saudi King hospitalized for medical exam
State media reports indicate that the 86-year-old monarch was transported to a hospital in the Red Sea city of Jeddah for undisclosed examinations.
The Saudi Royal Court announced on Sunday that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is undergoing a medical examination at the Royal Clinics of Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah having experienced a high fever and joint pain.
"The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques [Salman] will undergo medical examinations today, May 19, at the Royal Clinics of Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah due to a high fever and joint pain. The medical team will conduct tests to diagnose his condition and monitor his health," the chancellery was quoted by the state-run Saudi Press Agency as saying.
The 88-year-old monarch underwent a routine one-day medical examination a month ago.
It is worth noting that King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud ascended to the Saudi throne after the passing of his half-brother King Abdullah in 2015, at the age of 79. Prior to this, he had served as the governor of Riyadh province for 48 years before assuming the positions of defense minister in 2011 and crown prince in the following year.
