According to police, a sports utility vehicle drove through a Christmas parade in Wisconsin, United States, injuring more than 40 people, including children, and killing up to 5.
The event occurred on Sunday in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

A person of interest has been detained, according to Waukesha Police Chief Dan Thompson, and the suspect car has been seized.
“A red SUV drove into our Christmas parade that we were holding downtown. More than 20 individuals were injured as a result of this incident,” Thompson told reporters.

“Some of the individuals were children and there are some fatalities as a result of this incident.”
Thompson reported on the deaths saying: “I don’t have an exact number at this time.”

Footage uploaded online shows a red SUV crashing through the parade, allegedly running over more than a dozen people before bystanders rushed to help.
Police appeared to open fire on the SUV in a second video as it plowed through traffic barriers.
Later, the local CBS affiliate shared a photo on Twitter of what seemed to be the red SUV involved, resting in a driveway with its hood crumpled and front fender hanging off.

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, an entire girl dance team was hit by the SUV.
“They were pom-poms and shoes and spilled hot chocolate everywhere. I had to go from one crumpled body to the other to find my daughter,” Corey Montiho, a member of the Waukesha school board said. “My wife and two daughters were almost hit. Please pray for everybody. Please pray.”
According to the same source, police officers hurried down the street ordering parade attendees to seek refuge in shops.
