A tourist plane crashed in a mountainous area in western Switzerland on Saturday, killing three people on board, police reported.
The small tourist plane crashed near Ponts-De-Martel in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel at around 10.20 a.m. (0820 GMT), according to regional police. “The pilot and the two passengers died on site,” the Neuchâtel police said in a statement, without providing further details about the victims.

The jet was registered in Switzerland and had taken off for a sightseeing flight from the neighboring Chaux-de-Fonds airfield.
Police said a huge rescue and recovery operation had been initiated, but that the accident location in the Neuchâtel mountains was in very steep terrain, complicating the work.
According to the statement, the cause of the crash is yet unknown, and officials have initiated an inquiry to ascertain the facts.
