Wang Yaping Is China's First Female Astronaut to Complete Spacewalk
Wang is China's second woman in space, following Liu Yang, who joined the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft in 2012.
Chinese astronaut Wang Yaping has performed the first spacewalk by a Chinese woman as part of a six-month mission to the country's space station.
According to the China Manned Space Agency (CMS), Wang and fellow astronaut Zhai Zhigang left the station's main module on Sunday evening, spending more than six hours outside installing equipment and conducting tests alongside the station's robotic service arm.
Furthermore, CMS stated on its website that the third member of the crew, Ye Guangfu, assisted from within the station.
Three spacewalks aim to install equipment in preparation for the station's expansion.
Wang is China's second woman in space, following Liu Yang, who joined the Shenzhou-9 spacecraft in 2012.
Over the next two years, China's space program intends to send multiple crews to the station in order to fully operationalize it.
