Woman shot dead in New York after pulling into wrong driveway

A 20-year-old woman was shot dead on Saturday after her friend pulled into the driveway of a house they believed belonged to a friend, according to New York authorities.
Kaylin Gillis was pronounced dead, as confirmed by the Washington County Sherif Jeffrey Murphy in a statement, after Kevin Monahan, 65, fired at the car with four friends inside who realized they got the wrong address.
The perpetrator, Monahan, is being detained at the Warren County jail and faces charges of second-degree murder.

“This is a very sad case of some young adults that were looking for a friend’s house and ended up at this man’s house,” Murphy expressed, adding: "She was a young girl that was taken way too young," he added.
Murphy claimed that Monahan fired two shots from his home and one of the bullets hit the car, although he stated that there appeared to be no prior interaction between the friends and Monahan. Murphy clarified that there was “clearly no threat” from the individuals in the car.
Hebron, the area in which Gillis was shot, is rural and contains no connection for cell or internet service. The group drove a few miles in order to reach service and dial 911.
Authorities received information of the shooting shortly before 10 pm when Gillis’ friends called 911 after Monahan shot twice at the car.
As the motive remains unclear, the sheriff described Monahan as a laborer and a native of Hebron, who was also uncooperative when deputies arrived at the scene and said not one word to the authorities as to why he shot at the car.
This comes a mere days after Ralph Paul Yarl, 16, was shot twice and struck in the head by a white man last week in Kansas City as he was picking up his twin brothers from a friend's house on Thursday.

He rang the wrong doorbell and was shot by the homeowner through a glass door, according to a note from his aunt, Faith Spoonmoore, on a GoFundMe campaign for his medical bills and therapy.
