251 journalists have been killed in the Israeli war on Gaza, Hamas stated, describing it as a "heinous crime".
Marking the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian Journalist, Hamas affirmed in a statement that these crimes against journalists will not be erased by time nor will they prevent the truth from exposing the occupation's atrocities against the Palestinian people, their land, and holy sites. It held both the occupation and the US administration fully responsible for these crimes over the past 23 months.
Hamas emphasized the failure of Israeli propaganda built on lies and deception, stressing the resilience of the Palestinian people and their legitimate right to resist the aggression.
The movement also praised the expressions of solidarity with journalists in Palestine, calling on Arab, Islamic, and international media to continue their role in covering the occupation's crimes and to side with the justice of the Palestinian cause.
International media access to Gaza necessary
In its statement, Hamas urged journalists' unions worldwide to increase their support for their Palestinian colleagues and pressure "Israel" to grant international media access to Gaza to report the truth. Furthermore, it called on the international community and human rights organizations to pursue legal action against the occupation's leaders for the war crimes committed in Gaza.
Since the beginning of the war on Gaza, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS) said "Israel" has killed more than 270 Palestinian journalists in futile attempts to bury the truth of its genocide. The number of journalists killed in Gaza is more than four times the number of journalists killed in World War II and exceeds the number of journalists killed in both World Wars, the Vietnam War, the Yugoslavian War, and the Afghanistan War combined.
According to a confirmation by PJS, fifteen journalists, which included three female reporters, were killed by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) in Gaza during August 2025.

An extensive investigation into an Israeli military strike on Gaza's Nasser Hospital that killed 22 people, including six journalists, on August 25, was conducted by The Associated Press. According to AP reporting, Israeli forces targeted a structure they claimed was a Hamas observation post located on the hospital's external stairwell, a move they justified by citing the observation of suspicious behavior involving a camera that had been covered with a towel, an action they interpreted as a deliberate attempt at concealment.
However, the AP investigation revealed that the camera actually belonged to Reuters video journalist Hussam al-Masri, who was killed in the initial strike, with AP gathering evidence that showed al-Masri routinely covered his equipment with a white cloth, a standard practice among journalists worldwide to protect cameras from the sun and dust.
