The Israeli occupation military confirmed on Sunday the deaths of two soldiers, including an officer, and the injury of several others during ongoing confrontations in the Gaza Strip.
According to the Israeli occupation forces' spokesperson, an officer in the elite Yahalom combat engineering unit was killed in combat in the southern part of the besieged territory, and a soldier in the same unit, was likewise killed in the same area.
Israeli media reported that the two soldiers died as a result of an explosive device that detonated while their unit was inspecting a tunnel opening.
'Difficult' incident afflicts Israelis
The incident, described by Israeli outlets as "difficult," occurred as a Golani Brigade force operating under the 36th Division was combing a building and discovered the tunnel entrance. At some point during the operation, an explosive, previously undetected, detonated, leading to the fatalities.
In the same encounter, another soldier from the Yahalom unit sustained critical injuries.
Separately, a reserve soldier from the 7007 Battalion of the Jerusalem [Al-Quds] (16th) Brigade was also critically injured during fighting in northern Gaza on Saturday.
These casualties come amid intensified resistance operations against the Israeli occupation forces across the Gaza Strip, particularly in its southern and northern regions, where Palestinian fighters continue to confront and inflict losses on the occupying army despite the ongoing siege and relentless bombardment.
