'Israel' strikes over 150 Syrian military targets after fall of Assad
The Israeli airstrikes, described as the most intense since 1973, targeted over 150 military sites that included tanks, planes, and military helicopters belonging to the Syrian Army.
Israeli media reported that the Israeli occupation's Air Force carried out attacks on more than 150 military targets in Syria on Sunday and Monday as part of efforts to dismantle the capabilities of the Syrian Army.
According to the Israeli Army Radio correspondent, the targets included tanks, planes, and military helicopters belonging to the former Syrian Arab Army.
The airstrikes were described as the most intense on Syria since the October 1973 War, according to Israeli media citing Air Force sources.
The opposition-aligned Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that Israeli airstrikes targeted Syrian Army warehouses in Soumariya, Damascus, as well as Corniche, Mushayrifah, and Ras Shamra in the Latakia countryside.
The Observatory claimed, "Israel destroyed all warplane squadrons at airports, as well as radars and weapons depots."
Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, in turn, reported an Israeli attack on Latakia port on the Syrian coast on Monday evening.
Our correspondent added that the Israeli occupation also targeted the Electronic Warfare Administration headquarters near Bahdaliyah, adjacent to Sayyeda Zainab in Damascus.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Channel 12 stated that "the air force is operating on a very broad scale across Syria to destroy the remnants of the Syrian Army."
The channel emphasized, "This is the perfect opportunity to eliminate all of the Syrian Army's capabilities to prevent them from falling into anyone's hands, regardless of who assumes power in the future."
The Israeli Kan channel also quoted an Israeli official saying, "Israel's goal is to destroy all Syrian Army equipment, from tanks to missiles."
In one of Sunday’s airstrikes, Israeli occupation forces targeted the security compound in the Kafr Sousa area of central Damascus, which houses intelligence and customs offices, resulting in massive fires.
Additionally, Israeli Security Minister Israel Katz reiterated the Israeli occupation’s commitment to maintaining control over strategic points in Syria, establishing a buffer zone, and targeting strategic weapons, air defense systems, and any attempts to transfer weapons to Lebanon.
Hamas, for its part, strongly condemned "the brutal and repeated Zionist aggression against Syrian territories," affirming its firm rejection of "any Zionist ambitions or schemes targeting neighborly Syria, its land, and its people."
After buffer zone, 'Israel' occupies Syrian Mount Hermon
The Israeli military occupied Syria’s Mount Hermon with Israeli occupation forces advancing several kilometers into the Syrian Golan, Israeli media reported on Sunday.
The media said Israeli forces took control of the highest point in the Hermon Mountain inside Syrian territory, pointing out that this point lies within the buffer zone and is under the responsibility of the United Nations.
A UN base that oversees the Golan Heights within Syrian territory sits on the summit, according to the report.
Israeli media indicated that the Israeli military is intensifying its strikes on Syria, targeting weapons depots and air defense systems; anything that could pose a "future threat" to "Israel".
According to Israeli media, the Israeli occupation army announced bombing about 100 "targets" inside Syria in the past hours.
They added that the wave of Israeli attacks on Syria is being carried out on an unprecedented scale, exploiting the current governmental "chaos" in the country.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructed the Israeli occupation military to occupy the buffer zone on the border with Syria.
Speaking from a site near the Syrian border, Netanyahu declared the collapse of the 1974 "disengagement agreement" with Syria, after "Syrian forces have abandoned their positions."
He said he ordered the military "to seize the buffer zone and the commanding positions nearby."
The occupation military announced Sunday a troop deployment there.
