The assassination of the head of the Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh, undermines the establishment of a potential political solution in the Gaza Strip, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said on Wednesday.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry, Brazil denounced the Israeli aggression against Iranian territories and sovereignty as a clear violation of international charters, which undermines the possibility of achieving "peace" in the region.

"Such acts further diminish the chances of a political solution to the conflict in Gaza, negatively impacting the ongoing negotiations for a ceasefire and the release of hostages," the statement further said.

Brazil also condemned Haniyeh's assassination, called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, and urged the international community to exercise its duties and ensure dialogue to avoid further escalations.

Iran vows to avenge Haniyeh

In this context, the Leader of Iran, Sayyed Ali Khamenei, vowed to inflict the most severe punishment on "Israel" for its attack on the nation and its assassination of Ismail Haniyeh.

According to Sayyed Khamenei, it is Iran's duty to respond to "Israel" in retribution for Haniyeh's blood because he was assassinated on Iranian territory.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) also vowed on Wednesday that the Resistance Axis will make "Israel" pay a heavy price for its "criminal and cowardly" assassination of Hamas' Politburo chief martyr Ismail Haniyeh.

"The heinous crime committed by the Zionist regime in killing Ismail Haniyeh... will undoubtedly be met with a harsh and painful response from the powerful Resistance Front," the IRGC said in a statement.

The IRGC added that the Israeli crimes, which defy international law, are attempts to conceal their failure after nine months of war on Gaza, resulting in the massacre of tens of thousands of innocent Palestinian women and children.
