A week ago, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced that his country wants to "reconstruct" its relationship with the Palestinians and "will seek to reopen the US Consulate in Jerusalem" after the administration of former US President Donald Trump closed it in 2019.
After a meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, Blinken said, "I am here to confirm the United States' commitment to rebuilding the relationship with the Palestinian Authority and people."
The US State Department also announced, in a statement a few days ago, that Foreign Minister Antony Blinken and Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz discussed strengthening the partnership between the United States and "Israel."
Blinken assured Gantz "the importance of promoting peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians, and supporting Israel's right to defend itself", and highlighted Washington's commitment to the security of "Israel".
A high-ranking diplomatic official in the US State Department had spoken last month about the purpose of the US Secretary of State's visit to the Middle East, saying it came to ensure the cease-fire is maintained and to achieve the armistice between the Israelis and the Palestinians."
