Al-Kadhimi from Speicher: corruption caused these tragedies
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi visits Camp Speicher massacre site, states that corruption and wrong policies were some of the reasons behind this massacre.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi said that his government would transform the location of the Speicher crime into a "project and museum of memory, glorifying and immortalizing the sacrifices of Iraqis and confirming their cohesion."
Al-Kadhimi added, during his visit to the site of the Speicher massacre, that this place "witnessed one of the most horrific massacres of humanity, and the innocent blood that fell here awakened the Iraqi conscience among all segments of the people, and this blood was the impetus to achieve the great victory that the Iraqis achieved in front of the most powerful terrorist force."
He continued, "We must always remember this innocent blood by preserving the victories we achieved against terrorism and preserving our national identity. We must learn from the lessons of the past in order to avoid the repetition of such tragedies and massacres."
Stressing that corruption, mismanagement, and wrong policies are "the causes of these tragedies," he explained that "our unity, our institutions, and patriotism will prevent the recurrence of such massacres."
ISIS committed this massacre against about 1,700 students and soldiers at the Military College known as Speicher in Saladin Governorate in June 2014, when the northern and western areas of Iraq were under its control.
ISIS elements shot the victims from close range in the open on the banks of the Tigris River and then threw their bodies into it.
