Blinken: US has “no better friend than Germany”
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, has stated that his country does not have a "greater friend" than Germany, which contradicts the US's historic posture.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken praised Germany as his country's closest ally.
“I believe it is fair to say that the United States has no better partner, no better friend in the world than Germany,” Blinken said in Berlin, beside German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Merkel's "amazing leadership" was also praised by Blinken. After 16 years as chancellor, he intends to step aside.
Earlier in the day, he shared another press conference with Foreign Minister Heiko Maas, though Blinken made it apparent that everything was not well.
“We don't always agree – the foreign minister and I discussed the Nord Stream 2 gas project today, which we continue to feel poses a threat to Europe's energy security,” he said. “Germany has a unique perspective, and that happens to be the case.
