Iranian leader Sayyed Ali Khamenei received the first dose of Iran’s COVIran Barekat on Friday morning, according to a website linked with Khamenei’s office and his official Twitter account.

Supreme Leader Khamenei expressed his gratitude after receiving the vaccine. He said, "I am truly grateful to all those who used their knowledge and experience and made scientific and practical efforts to provide the country with such a great, prestigious capability, that is the Covid vaccine."

The Islamic Republic of Iran is the world's sixth Islamic country and the first in western Asia to manufacture a COVID-19 vaccine indigenously.
Local institutions are now researching to produce local COVID-19 vaccines. Given the success of clinical trial results and safety, and the efficacy of two types of local vaccines, their widespread and voluntary use has begun in the country.
