The Foreign Ministry statement indicated that the 16th high-level round would be on July 7-8, with Iran, Russia, Turkey, the Syrian government, and the opposition. In addition, representatives of the United Nations, Jordan, Lebanon, and Iraq will also participate as observers.
The 15th round of talks began last February in the Russian resort of Sochi. With the participation of the guarantor countries and the presence of the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen and the Arab presence represented by Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq as observers.
During the last round, the Astana talks discussed the return of Syrian refugees to their country and the economic situation in Syria. Its agenda also included issues of supporting the political process in Syria.
