Nizar Banat’s brother to Al-Mayadeen: “this crime will not pass”
The results of the beatings were visible on the body of martyr Nizar Banat, according to his brother, Ghassan Banat, who also affirms that the authority was worried that Nizar Banat's funeral would roam the city of Al-Khalil.
Ghassan Banat, Nizar Banat’s brother, said that "the consequences of beating, crushing, and bruises were obvious on the body of martyr Nizar," adding that "the body of martyr Banat was not delivered in the formal way, and no communication with his family was made."
"We have no faith in the government and its committees," he stated in an interview with Al-Mayadeen today, Saturday, adding, "We have not yet been contacted by the authority's administration."
"He was slain at night, and they stipulated that the burial be at night," Banat recalled of the martyr Nizar's assassination, "but this crime would not pass like this, and the authority was worried that the funeral of Nizar Banat would roam the city of Al-Khalil."
He also called for the outcast of Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister of the Palestinian National Authority Ibrahim Shtayyeh, stressing "our struggle will continue until this is achieved”.
He also added, "we will not let our people down and we promise them that Nizar's voice will persist."
In the same context, Ammar Banat, Nizar Banat's cousin, told Al Mayadeen that " Nizar Banat’s family demands the arrest of 27 officers from the Military Intelligence unit engaged in the assassination", adding that "they should be subjected to a public trial."
According to Ammar Banat, the martyr's family assured that "the so-called Maher Abu al-Halawi, the deputy head of the Preventive Security Service in Al-Khalil, is directly responsible for the murder of Nizar since the arrest warrant was issued by him and executed in his office."
On her part, Nizar Banat's mother told Al Mayadeen that her son Nizar "has been chased for two months by the authority."
Thousands marched through the streets of Al Khalil on Friday at the funeral of the Arab fighter and resistance figure Nizar Banat.
On Thursday morning, members of the security services raided the house where he was staying. According to his family, the officers sprayed pepper gas in Nizar's eyes before "viciously beating him" and dragging him away. Two hours later, his family learned that Banat was martyred.
