Lapid in the opening of the "Israeli" embassy in UAE
“Foreign Israeli Minister Yair Lapid described the opening of the Israeli embassy in Abu Dhabi as a "historic moment."
Lapid thanked former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, "who was the architect of the normalization agreements, and the man who worked tirelessly on them. This moment is recorded for him as much as it is for us," as he put it.
An Economic Cooperation Agreement must be signed between the two parties after the planned meeting between Lapid and his counterpart Abdullah bin Zayed, as Israeli media reported.
This will be Lapid's second meeting with the foreign minister of an Arab emirate in the Gulf after meeting the day before yesterday in Rome with his Bahraini counterpart Abdul Latif Al-Zayani.
Lapid inaugurated the Israeli consulate in Dubai, with the participation of the United Arab Emirates Minister of State for Foreign Trade, Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi. He will also visit the Israeli pavilion, which is being built for the huge international exhibition, the Dubai Expo 2020 trade fair, held in the fall.
Since signing the normalization agreement last September, many treaties have been signed between the two parties.
